In honor of my first post, I’m going to write about where I spend most of my time. My job, at Culver’s, is very difficult at times but it’s honestly not that bad. Everyone always says “never work in fast food” and “fast food sucks” but to me, it really isn’t as bad as everyone always made it seem. I have made some of the best relationships with people through my work, I’ve learned so much, I’m more prepared for a fast-paced work environment, and overall it has just changed me as a person.

At first, I hated it because I was at the bottom of the line. Everyone sent me to do the things they didn’t want to, big and small. But now, I’m one of the more advanced workers there. I know literally every position, and I know how to do almost everything there. As of last month, I am now a trainer. My manager told me that since I’m doing so well and I know so much it would be a good fit. And honestly, I agree with her because when I was trained nobody taught me anything. I had to learn everything on my own because all of the trainers were lazy and just didn’t care. But for me, I care. And I don’t want the new people to struggle as bad as I did, because honestly, I debated quitting every night for the first few months. So, I show them everything, everything I’ve learned, special ways to make things easier, and I show them ways to ensure that the customers are happy even when something goes wrong.

You would assume that working at a fast food place you wouldn’t make good money right? Well, you’re very wrong. I am 17 and living in a very small town and I make $12.75 which is more than 2 dollars over minimum wage and over a dollar more than all of my friends, even the ones that do desk work. And for my general manager, you won’t even believe how much she makes, I don’t know the exact number but I do know that it’s over 25 an hour. Crazy, right?

Well that’s enough about my job for now, but if you take anything from this post I want it to be not to listen to others because so many people told me not to accept the job there, and If I hadn’t I NEVER would have become the person I am today, it has changed me so much for the better and I honestly couldn’t be any more grateful.
